*Golden Retriever*



                      

*The Golden Retriever is a large breed of dog that was developed as a gun dog to retrieve shot waterfowl and upland game during hunting, and is about the same size as the Labrador and Flat-coated Retrievers, but less vigorous.

*Origin: Scotland

*Nicknames:
Golden...Yellow Retriever...Goldie

*Description: Eager...active...alert...self-confident...friendly...kind...intelligent...eager to please...untemperamental...easily distracted...potential for timidity if not socialized...likes everyone indiscriminately.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include exuberant jumping on everyone as a greeting and, possibly, uncontrolled playfulness. They are good with other dogs, cats and most livestock.

*Compatible with children: Yes


*Typical Female Weight: 55-65 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 65-75 lbs

*Labrador Retriever*



*The Labrador Retriever breed is about the same size as the Golden Retriever, but appears more powerfully muscled. The yellow-coated variety may be more dominate than the black.

*Origin: Newfoundland

*Nicknames: Lab...Labrador

*Description: Intelligent...good tempered... bold...gentle...energetic...good natured...exceptional with children and liking everyone..very mellow.

*Behavior: Behavior problems may include constantly barking at noises, occasional house soiling, and occasional chewing and destruction. Some may show willful disobedience as a form of dominance challenge. Labs seem a bit more dominant and territorial than Goldens. Most are pretty tough and insensitive to rough handling and have high pain thresholds. Fear conditioning is hardly ever a problem with Labs.
