*Chow Chow*

*The Chow Chow, developed in China, is a large, densely coated breed with a lion-like mane and an unusual bluish-black tongue.

*Origin:
China

*Description: Very stubborn...bossy...prone to willful disobedience and may become threatening to those who try to force obedience...highly independent...don't-mess-with-me animal...if not trained, socialized and dominated at a very young age, will become the boss of the family.

*Behavior: Behavior problems center on dominance struggles. Some Chows may show dominance aggression toward people it considers submissive and may interpret even a friendly pat on the head as a dominance signal and react with its own dominance display. It may guard food, bones, toys and areas of the house from some or all family members. The breed is sensitive to heat and may display irritable snapping on a hot day or if annoyed. A Chow Chow may be touch-shy and refuse to be groomed. Breeders claim this is the only breed "born housebroken," but very dominant males may mark their indoor territory by squirting on chair or table legs.

*Compatible with children: Use discretion...
The Chow Chow is usually quite good with children, but due to its dominate personality it should be raised from puppyhood and socialized very early.

*Typical Female Weight: 45-65 lbs
*Typical Male Weight: 50-70 lbs

*Average life span: 10-12 years.
